Nuria González

Nuria González is a leading figure in swimwear fashion made in the Canary Islands, and particularly a key name within the Gran Canaria Moda Cálida label, of which she has been a part since its inception in 1996. Known for her commitment to sustainability, artisanal quality, and the cultural identity of the archipelago, she has established herself as one of the most prominent designers in the region.

A self-taught designer, she has enriched her experience with numerous specialized courses, including lingerie and swimwear pattern making, industrial pattern making, and training with renowned professionals such as Roger Frank Desmond.

One of the hallmarks of her work is her constant connection to the local environment. Her creative vision is deeply inspired by nature, native flora and fauna, as well as urban landscapes tied to the sea, which she reinterprets and universalizes, transforming them into the central themes for prints on lycra, tulle, and other fabrics.

Painting has also been a key source of inspiration for her prints. She has translated works by Canarian artists such as Néstor Martín and Gabriel Ortuño onto lycra, and one of her most successful collections was created using monotypes by her mother, María del Pino Santana.

Each of her annual fashion shows generates great anticipation, thanks to her original approach to textile printing and her bold, innovative staging.
In parallel, under her NURIA GONZÁLEZ brand, she has designed and produced uniforms and costumes for advertising campaigns and corporate events across a wide range of industries, including television, film, theatre, dance, synchronized swimming, and even the Carnival of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Throughout her career, her collections have been showcased at both national and international fashion fairs, including Gran Canaria Swim Week by Moda Cálida, Semana Internacional de la Moda in Madrid (SIMM), Lyon Mode City Interfiliere, and Gran Canaria Swim Week at Berlin Fashion Week.

Her work has also been featured in numerous prominent fashion publications, both national and international, including Vogue Spain, Glamour, Hola! Spain, Hello! UK, Woman Madame Figaro, In Style, Textil Express, Beachwear, among many others.

In recognition of her work, she received the Best Sustainable Collection Award 2022 at the 16th edition of Gran Canaria Swim Week by Moda Cálida.

Fan Fatal and Mamapaca’s Flowers

The idea for this collection emerged when I came across, in my studio, a test piece made years ago featuring a collage by Celeste González (Fan Fatal) printed on a stretch fabric, along with a box filled with fabric flowers that I keep from the time my grandmother used to make them to adorn my bikinis (Mama Paca’s flowers). This was the spark that set the collection’s engine in motion.

The proposal is structured around collages created by Celeste González using cut-outs from fashion magazines, applied both as prints on white backgrounds and as transfers directly onto the garments. This visual language also extends to the handcrafted creation of accessories and complements, such as pendants and earrings. The collection is completed through the use of plain fabrics in acidic, vibrant colors, an eclectic approach to shapes and styles, and looks developed entirely within the studio.
