Gran Canaria, October 22, 2025

The first day of Gran Canaria Swim Week kicked off this Wednesday, for the second consecutive year, at Pasito Blanco Marina, which was transformed into a unique setting to open this new edition.

The President of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales, emphasized that “Pasito Blanco Marina once again becomes the perfect setting to inaugurate Swimwear Fashion Week. This enclave symbolizes the essence of our island and allows us to show the world not only the creativity of our designers but also the allure of our environment. Choosing outdoor fashion shows is a way to project Gran Canaria internationally, integrating its climate, landscapes, and natural spaces into the very experience of fashion.

For her part, Minerva Alonso, Councillor for Economic Development, stated that “Gran Canaria Swim Week 2025 reflects the Cabildo’s strong commitment to a creative and expanding sector with enormous potential to generate economy, employment, and international projection. From the public sphere, we support talent, innovation, and sustainability as the driving forces behind the transformation of fashion in the Canary Islands. This runway not only showcases collections but presents to the world an emerging, solid industry committed to a model of sustainable and high-quality growth.

Gisela (Barcelona, Spain), Joana Michaela (Málaga, Spain), Victoria Cimadevilla (Oviedo, Spain), Nuria González (Gran Canaria, Spain) and Alexandra Miró (United Kingdom) were the featured designers of the first day of shows at Gran Canaria Swim Week, presenting their swimwear proposals for the Spring/Summer 2026 season.

First day of runway shows

The first designer to open the runway was Joana Meyer, making her debut at GCSW. A pioneer in 3D fashion and textile innovation, she presents her Barcelona-based brand Joana Michaela, where technology and craftsmanship exist in constant dialogue. Les Flors, her Cruise collection, is a creation where flora and the chromatic palette of Gaudí’s La Pedrera coexist with technological avant-garde and artisanal techniques, defining the DNA of her brand. Each piece is entirely crafted using 3D-printed fabrics, exploring new textures that reinterpret traditional lace through a contemporary lens.

She was followed by Gisela, founded by Málaga-based designer Yolanda Ferrer, who has transformed the family business into an international benchmark in lingerie. Her approach combines innovation, sensitivity and strategic vision. With over 3.5 million garments produced annually and presence in more than 30 countries, Gisela has become a symbol of beauty, emotion and modernity. The collection Les Voyages, inspired by the essence of the South of France, embodies effortless beauty and freedom, marking the brand’s evolution towards streetwear.

The afternoon continued with the new proposal from Asturian designer Victoria Cimadevilla, who returns once again with her Haute Couture swimwear pieces—unique, made-to-measure garments crafted by skilled artisans, sophisticated and versatile for both day and night at the beach. Paying homage to The Swans (Los Cines) by Truman Capote, Cimadevilla presents a collection inspired by the sophistication and sensuality of an enigmatic and unattainable woman—an exploration of elegance through the duality of sensuality and mystery.

Nuria González, winner of the Best Sustainable Collection award in 2022 and a key figure in swimwear made in the Canary Islands under the Gran Canaria Moda Cálida label, draws inspiration from local culture and the natural richness of the islands. Her work has reached runways in countries such as France and Germany, as well as internationally renowned publications. This season, FAN FATAL y las flores de Mamapaca is a handcrafted and eclectic tribute inspired by the flowers of Mamapaca, the paintings of her mother Pino, and the collages of her sister Celeste, featuring vibrant fabrics and unique prints. A proposal that blends the impossible with the natural, where each look is handmade in the studio using paper and fabric remnants transformed into fashion.

To close the first day of runway shows, British designer Alexandra Miro, a reference in resort glamour, redefines swimwear through bold silhouettes and prints. Her collection Solaris channels the free-spirited glamour of 1970s American summers: poolside icons, desert road trips and a sun-drenched nostalgia.

A striking opening at Pasito Blanco

Once again, Pasito Blanco Marina became the perfect stage to launch Gran Canaria Swim Week.

This edition continues to embrace outdoor runway shows as a key tool to project the island internationally, showcasing its climate, landscapes and natural surroundings as an integral part of the experience.

Fashion, light and nature merge into a single reflection. The 135-metre runway, adorned with golden mirrors, amplifies the setting: the sky is mirrored beneath, clouds drift under the models’ steps, and the hues of the sunset glow alongside each show. Surrounding it all, white flags sway as part of the scenography, embracing the runway.

Karolina Kurkova shines on the runway

GCSW 2025 ambassador Karolina Kurkova took to the runway to open the new edition of Gran Canaria Swim Week, captivating all attendees on the opening day.

The internationally renowned top model has walked for leading luxury houses such as Chanel, Versace and Louis Vuitton, and rose to global fame as a Victoria’s Secret “Angel,” a title that propelled her to the peak of her career.

The most coveted front row

Among the standout guests attending the front row of the opening day at Gran Canaria Swim Week were editors-in-chief from leading national fashion and lifestyle media, among other notable faces.

Content creators Paula Viana from The Backstage Talks, Marta Camin and Marina Muñoz were also present at the opening day, joined by Canarian influencers Yaiza Mencia, Marta Ibrahim, and Priscila Betancort.

All of them helped amplify the visibility of the shows by sharing their GCSW experience with their respective digital communities using the hashtags #GranCanariaSwimWeek2025 and #GranCanariaSwimWeek. In addition, a group of national and international press—both fashion and general media—traveled to Gran Canaria to attend the event.

Sponsors and partners

Iberia Express becomes the official airline of Gran Canaria Swim Week this year, reinforcing its support for events that contribute to the island’s international projection—positioning it as a key meeting point for the fashion industry and as an outstanding destination for hosting major events.

During the opening day, attendees were welcomed by the new new Audi Q6 Sportback e-tron, a fully electric SUV that accompanied the start of the runway, adding an extra touch of style and sophistication to the setting. Its sporty design, advanced technology and impressive range symbolize the brand’s new era of sustainable mobility, perfectly aligned with the innovative and elegant spirit that defines Gran Canaria Swim Week.

In total, the runway features sixteen sponsoring brands that have shown their unwavering support for the fashion industry by participating in this edition. Alongside Iberia Express and Audi are Expomeloneras, Pasito Blanco, RTVE, Oribe, Rowenta, Mahou 5 Estrellas, Fund Grube, Perchel Beach Club, Helamore, The Mint Company, Grupo Galarza-Cadiex, Blat Vodka, Fever Tree, Fonteide, and Munchitos.
