Gran Canaria Swim Week inspires the designs of Celebrity Masters of Fashion

Minerva Alonso, a councilor for the Gran Canaria Island Council, visits the runway, while the sewing talent show—produced by RTVE in collaboration with Shine Iberia—sets up its workshops ahead of the start of the 17th edition of Swimwear Fashion Week



Maspalomas, October 22, 2025. Minerva Alonso, the Gran Canaria Island Council’s Minister of Economic Development, visited the setup for the 17th edition of Gran Canaria Swim Week, which is taking place at the Expomeloneras Convention Center from October 22 to 25. This swimwear fashion week, unique in Europe, has served as inspiration for the TV show *Maestros de la Costura Celebrity*, which has recently arrived on the island to set up the workshops for one of its outdoor challenges.

“For the Gran Canaria Moda Cálida program and our swimwear fashion week, it’s a real bonus that an episode of Celebrity Masters of Tailoring is being filmed on the island of Gran Canaria, allowing us to showcase the swimwear made on the island, as we are the only platform in Europe that produces swimwear: a way not only to promote the island of Gran Canaria, but also the companies in the island’s fashion sector,” Alonso stated during his visit to the workshops where the celebrities of this season have been hard at work on their sewing projects.

Maestros de la Costura Celebrity is the celebrity edition of the sewing talent show produced by RTVE in collaboration with Shine Iberia, which connects amateurs with renowned designers while also serving as a genuine platform for training, visibility, and professional advancement; as well as a channel for internationalizing the image and brand of the Gran Canaria Swim Week runway, thanks to its reach of over 450 million viewers across five continents, with a presence in more than 190 countries via distinct broadcasts on its international channel.

The Cabildo de Gran Canaria is the only institution that funds a program to support the fashion sector and the business community within that sector in Gran Canaria. Gran Canaria Swim Week is the only fashion show in Europe dedicated exclusively to swimwear, promoted by the island’s government. This platform provides visibility to both emerging and established brands—local and international—and promotes the island’s international profile.
