Gran Canaria, 24 June 2026 — The first day of Gran Canaria Swim Week began this Wednesday, for the first time, at the outdoor location of Perchel Beach Club, transformed into a unique setting to open this new edition.

The President of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales, opened the day by posing for an official photograph alongside prominent local models, including Claudia González, Lucía Mateo, Stella Ripper, Marina García and Sarah Khulman, thereby showcasing local talent from the very first moment of the event.

In this context, Morales highlighted that “Gran Canaria Swim Week represents our island’s ability to turn talent, creativity and our unique landscapes into a tool for international projection. Today, this runway is one of the best showcases for presenting Gran Canaria to the world as an innovative, open island and a benchmark in the swimwear fashion industry.”

The island’s highest authority also underlined that “holding this event in such a distinctive setting as Perchel Beach Club demonstrates how we are able to bring fashion, tourism, landscape and economy together in a single project. Gran Canaria Swim Week creates opportunities for our companies, strengthens our external image and helps position the island as a leading destination for major international events.”

For her part, Minerva Alonso, Councillor for Economic Development, stated that “this event is much more than a runway show. It is a business and internationalisation platform for our companies, connecting brands with buyers, specialised media and industry leaders, generating real opportunities to continue strengthening the economy linked to fashion and creativity in Gran Canaria. That is precisely why the intense professional agenda taking place alongside the shows is so important, with strategic meetings and working sessions with buyers, industry professionals and representatives of some of the leading international fashion organisations, helping to open up new avenues for collaboration and growth for our brands.”

First day of runway shows

Maldito Sweet, from Gran Canaria, Spain; Gogana, from Seville, Spain; Alexandra Miro, from the United Kingdom; and designer Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, from Madrid, Spain, were the leading brands on the first day of runway shows at Gran Canaria Swim Week, where they unveiled their swimwear proposals for the Spring/Summer 2027 season.

The first brand to open this new edition of GCSW was the Canarian label Maldito Sweet with its collection Maldito Crucero, a reinterpretation of the nautical universe through a contemporary, sophisticated perspective with clean lines. It also comes with a distinctive added value: the collection is available for purchase as soon as the show ends, a move that brings luxury closer to the customer in real time. With a timeless palette of black, khaki and white, the proposal evokes travel as a way of life through a sober and polished femininity that merges with the sea in every silhouette.

Next came the Sevillian brand Gogana, presenting its latest collection, BAHÍA, which pays tribute to its origins by combining the elegance of southern Spain with the energy and light of Brazil. The proposal is built on clean lines, meticulous construction that enhances the silhouette, and a colour palette with strong visual impact. These are pieces designed to enjoy the beach with comfort and sophistication. The collection also includes a detail that completes the proposal: the accessories are by the Canarian brand María Secretos, adding an artisanal and Atlantic touch that connects both shores.

The afternoon continued with the proposal by British brand Alexandra Miro, which returns to the Canarian runway to present its new collection, structured around two clearly differentiated lines. SOLARIS celebrates femininity through the warmth of summer days, balancing craftsmanship with relaxed sophistication through silks, sensual textures and luminous tones that evoke sunsets and coastal escapes. The second line, HIGH SUMMER, captures the romantic energy of summer through soft tailoring and lightweight silhouettes. It combines floral motifs, delicate embellishments and ornamental prints inspired by Mediterranean craftsmanship, mixing sun-faded neutrals with striking colour accents.

And to close the inaugural day of GCSW, one of the great icons of Spanish fashion, Agatha Ruiz de la Prada. The designer returns to the Canarian runway to present her new eponymous collection, proposing a bold optical game based on a skin-effect illusion. The swimsuits create an impression of transparency, over which the house’s emblematic symbols appear in vivid tones, as if floating directly on the body. The result transforms minimalism into a graphic explosion full of character.

Gran Canaria Swim Week premieres a new outdoor location

This year, the first day of runway shows took place in a privileged setting in the south of Gran Canaria: the outdoor space of Perchel Beach Club, an open-air seafront venue that becomes the perfect meeting point between fashion and landscape. The runway, the only outdoor catwalk within Gran Canaria Swim Week, marked the starting point of this new edition, highlighting the island’s natural richness and the uniqueness of its landscape.

But the day did not begin with the first designs. In the morning, before the runway show, Coco Constans, @ffitcoco, held one of her Fittcoco classes there, aimed at the runway models and various content creators.

In this setting facing the Atlantic, the brands presented their swimwear collections in an environment that combines the vastness of the ocean with an infinity pool, creating an atmosphere as visual as it is evocative. Journalists, fashion prescribers and well-known faces gathered at this coastal spot, drawn by the exclusivity of a setting that few runway shows can offer.

The day closed with a cocktail by the sea, providing the perfect finishing touch to an evening in which the landscape accompanied the concept of each collection, consolidating this southern location as one of the best possible showcases to launch Gran Canaria Swim Week with strength.

All of them amplified the visibility of the runway shows by sharing their experience at GCSW with their respective digital communities under the hashtags #GranCanariaSwimWeek2026 and #GranCanariaSwimWeek. In addition, a group of national and international press, from fashion and lifestyle publications, travelled to Gran Canaria to attend their annual appointment with swimwear fashion.

The runway has sixteen sponsoring brands, which have shown their unconditional support for the fashion industry through their participation in this edition.
