  • This edition introduces new partnerships and strengthens existing collaborations with key organisations in the sector

Gran Canaria Swim Week continues to consolidate its international standing by strengthening its strategic partnerships with some of the leading organisations and key platforms in the European fashion sector. As part of the 2026 edition, Minerva Alonso, the Councillor for Economic Development, Industry, Trade and Crafts at the Gran Canaria Island Council, has held a series of working meetings with representatives of international organisations involved in the promotion, marketing and development of the fashion industry.

These meetings, coordinated by the Gran Canaria Island Council in collaboration with the Gran Canaria Chamber of Commerce, form part of Gran Canaria Swim Week’s internationalisation strategy and aim to reinforce the event’s presence within the sector’s main professional networks, generate new opportunities for collaboration and continue to expand the international network of contacts for participating brands.

During the event, the minister held meetings with Scott Lipinski, CEO of the German Fashion Council; Audrey Khew, representative of the British Fashion Council; Mario Antico, CEO of Bucharest Fashion Week; Brenda Bellei, director of White Milano; Juan Duyos and Pepa Bueno, president and director of ACME, respectively; and Asier Labarga, director of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. These are organisations and platforms that play a leading role in promoting fashion and fostering links between designers, companies and international markets.

“The internationalisation of Gran Canaria Swim Week is built on solid, long-lasting relationships with organisations that share our vision of fashion as an industry, as an economic driver and as a tool for raising the island’s international profile. These meetings allow us to strengthen existing partnerships and open up new avenues for collaboration that directly benefit the participating brands,” said Minerva Alonso.

The 2026 edition thus consolidates the relationships developed over recent years with strategic organisations such as the Spanish Fashion Designers’ Association (ACME), White Milano and the German Fashion Council – collaborations that have contributed significantly to the event’s international growth and its positioning within the specialist swimwear and resortwear calendar.

New strategic markets: the United Kingdom and Romania

As a new development, Gran Canaria Swim Week is this year initiating discussions with representatives from the United Kingdom and Romania with the aim of exploring possible avenues for collaboration and analysing opportunities for expansion into these strategic markets. These initial contacts will enable an exchange of views and an assessment of future joint initiatives which, should they come to fruition, will help to strengthen the project’s international visibility.

In this context, the participation of organisations such as the German Fashion Council, the British Fashion Council, Bucharest Fashion Week and White Milano helps to expand the event’s network of professional contacts and strengthen its ability to connect designers and companies with key players in the international fashion industry.

“We want Gran Canaria Swim Week to continue to be a platform capable of generating real opportunities for brands and, at the same time, a meeting place for the industry’s leading players. Every new partnership strengthens our international standing and opens doors to future collaborations that enrich the project and add value to the sector as a whole,” said Alonso.

White Milano’s presence also represents one of the most significant partnerships for the participating brands. As has been the case in previous editions, the Italian platform will award one of the official Gran Canaria Swim Week prizes, consisting of the winning brand’s participation in White Resort Milano, the specialist trade fair to be held in September 2026, which is one of the most important commercial showcases for resort and ready-to-wear fashion brands internationally.

This year’s international outreach strategy also includes the participation of Alina Ceu?an, an entrepreneur, content creator and leading figure in the Romanian fashion sector, whose presence stems from her interest in gaining first-hand insight into the creative and business ecosystem linked to swimwear and resortwear in Gran Canaria. With a community of nearly one million followers and a well-established professional track record, her involvement will help to boost the event’s international visibility and strengthen links with the Romanian market with a view to future collaborations.

Through these initiatives, Gran Canaria Swim Week continues to make progress towards its goal of establishing itself as one of Europe’s leading platforms specialising in swimwear, strengthening its international reach and creating new opportunities for the companies and designers involved in the project.
