Gran Canaria Swim Week 2026 is strengthening its international profile with a trade mission bringing together buyers from four European countries

2026-06-26

  • Ten buyers from Spain, Italy, Portugal, Romania and Latin America are taking part in a business programme designed to generate new business opportunities for the participating brands
  • The initiative, launched by the Gran Canaria Island Council in collaboration with the Gran Canaria Chamber of Commerce, promotes the internationalisation of the swimwear and resortwear sector

Gran Canaria Swim Week continues to consolidate its position as an international business platform for swimwear and resortwear with the organisation of a new international trade mission, bringing together on the island a selection of national and international buyers from Spain, Italy, Portugal, Romania and Latin America.

The initiative, promoted by the Gran Canaria Island Council through the Department of Economic Development, Industry, Trade and Crafts and coordinated in collaboration with the Gran Canaria Chamber of Commerce, forms part of a series of strategic measures aimed at strengthening the international profile of the participating brands and facilitating their access to new markets.

Promoting the internationalisation of brands

Minerva Alonso, the Councillor for Economic Development, Industry, Trade and Crafts at the Gran Canaria Island Council, held a meeting with the participating buyers to gain a first-hand understanding of their expectations and to convey to them the importance of this initiative within the internationalisation strategy linked to Gran Canaria Swim Week.

“This trade mission is one of the most effective tools for turning the visibility offered by the catwalk into real business opportunities for our brands. Our aim is for participating designers and companies to establish high-quality business contacts that will contribute to their growth and international expansion,” said Minerva Alonso.

The buyers were selected from over 60 profiles proposed by participating designers and companies, specialist consultants and strategic contacts made during previous editions. Following a process of analysis and evaluation, a group of ten professionals with different commercial profiles was assembled, including distributors, specialist retailers, concept stores, e-commerce platforms and retail chains with a specific interest in the swimwear and resortwear sector.

Professional meetings to generate new business opportunities

During their stay in Gran Canaria, buyers will attend the fashion shows scheduled for 24–27 June and take part in business meetings with the participating brands to gain first-hand insight into their collections, production capacities and commercial proposals. These meetings will help to generate new business opportunities and open up future marketing channels for the companies featured on the catwalk.

“Every business meeting is an opportunity to showcase the talent, creativity and entrepreneurial spirit that exist within our sector. We want visitors to Gran Canaria to discover not only the collections presented on the catwalk, but also the potential of our companies to compete in international markets,” added Alonso.

A platform that adds value to the sector and to companies with an international reach

In addition to the direct commercial impact for participating companies, this initiative helps to strengthen Gran Canaria Swim Week’s position as a leading international platform for the swimwear industry. The presence of specialist buyers with genuine purchasing power generates sales opportunities and commercial agreements for brands, whilst enhancing the appeal and prestige of the catwalk within the professional circuit. Facilitating connections between brands and strategic markets makes Gran Canaria Swim Week a venue where not only creativity and design are showcased, but where business and corporate growth are also fostered.

An edition with an international outlook

The trade mission is taking place as part of a particularly significant edition of Gran Canaria Swim Week 2026, which, over four days, brings together a distinguished group of national and international designers specialising in swimwear, resortwear and lifestyle fashion.

Among the main highlights of this year’s event was the opening fashion show on Wednesday at Perchel Beach Club, a unique open-air venue that allowed international buyers, guests and influencers to discover the collections in a setting closely linked to the lifestyle and identity of Gran Canaria.

The programme combines established brands with new creative offerings, creating a diverse range that is representative of current trends in the sector. Furthermore, the networking activities, B2B meetings and professional gatherings scheduled throughout the week will help to strengthen commercial links between the brands and strategic European markets.

Through this initiative, Gran Canaria Swim Week reaffirms its commitment to the internationalisation of participating companies and continues to make progress towards its goal of establishing Gran Canaria as a leading international platform for swimwear.
