The Bridal Collection Fashion Show is celebrating the 20th anniversary of Gran Canaria Moda Cálida
2017-10-07
The Bridal Collection fashion show celebrated the 20th anniversary of Gran Canaria Moda Cálida today with a ceremony to recognise the good will of the Councillors, who have passed on the mission of supporting this important programme of the Cabildo.
The ceremony was headed by the president of the Cabildo, Antonio Morales, who recognised the work of Ezequiel Ramírez, Cristina Reyes (who was unable to attend), Inés Jiménez and Juan Domínguez, the predecessors of Minerva Alonso. The latter emphasised the progress the programme has made over these two years in office, with the setting up of the Escuela de Moda Cálida school, the agreement with the Asociación de Creadores de Moda España (ACME) and the many promotional activities organised.
The recognition ceremony gave way to Friday’s parades, which started with the Gran Canarian designer, José García, and his collection of 20 garments for weddings and special occasions inspired by the fashion of the 70s and characterised by their volume, the movement of the fabrics and their originality.
García’s designs are reminiscent of the famous New York nightclub Studio 54, with youthful designs in green, orange, turquoise, burgundy, white and raspberry colours, as well as more formal attire in crèpe georgette and pure silk gauze, fabrics which he also uses in his designs for brides – a real pleasure for the senses.
Trade fair in the Parque Doramas park
The fair, located in the Parque Doramas park, beside the Museo Néstor, opened to the public on Friday. Here, twenty firms from the wedding and special occasions sector offer information about their products and services.
At the different stalls, visitors can hire a range of different services from flowers for an event to audiovisual equipment, as well as catering, venues for celebrations and even presents and accessories.
The trade fair will continue to be open this Saturday from 12 am to 8 pm and on Sunday from 12 am to 6 pm.
Guests from La Palma
Two guest firms from La Palma, Diazar and Waleska exhibited their designs on the Gran Canaria runway. The former presented a collection full of allusions to ancient Greece, in which the use of gauze and crèpe forms light wavy lines which lend plenty of flowing movement to the garments.
Most of the garments intend to highlight the woman’s figure, with marked waistlines and suggestive necklines achieved by pencil skirts, knee-length dresses with godets, bodices with sweetheart necklines, blouses with halter necks that leave the back bare and suggestive transparencies at key points.
The Waleska brand, which shared protagonism with Diazar, presented a collection made for the modern, sophisticated woman who only wears high quality fabrics decorated with textile prints featuring well known places on La Palma.
Handmade embroidery gives Waleska garments a touch of class and helps to accentuate the romantic details on the clothes, ideal for special occasions.
The evening of parades was brought to a close with the collection of Palmas entitled ‘La Dolce Vita’, inspired by the famous film of the same name. His designs are based women’s clothes of the 60s and those worn by the stars of the big screen.
Palmas presented very feminine, sensual and elegant shapes in gauzes, silks, Chinese damasks, tulles and elaborate transparencies decorated with gemstones, glass and feathers in colours ranging from red to blue, as well as aquamarine, and, of course, golds and blacks which are so appropriate for evening wear.
This Saturday, the Bridal Collection fashion show will exhibit the designs of the new talents and the established brands at a double session which will surely attract a large audience.
