ACME will help six Grancanarian brands to jump into the national market

2019-01-31

The President of the Asociación de Creadores de Moda España (ACME), Modesto Lomba, and the Councillor of Industry of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Minerva Alonso, have presented in Madrid the six brands of the Moda Cálida programme that will benefit from mentoring to jump into the national market.

The selected creators are Aurelia Gil, with women’s prêt-à-porter; Carmen González, with lingerie; Susana Requena, with jewellery; Lucas Balboa, with masculine tailoring; Arcadio Domínguez, with women’s prêt-à-porter, and Jorge Toledo, with swimwear.

The event was also attended by these six Grancanarian designers, who were elected to receive advice after signing an agreement in April 2018 between Gran Canaria Moda Cálida and the national association.

Alonso pointed out that the Cabildo de Gran Canaria has been working in a coordinated manner with ACME since 2015, on “a continuous assignment of advising and supporting the growth of the Gran Canaria Moda Cálida programme”. “It’s been a very positive work for the fashion brands of the islands and what we are looking for with this agreement is to make the Gran Canaria talent known out of the islands”, Councillor highlighted.

Alonso added that they had had to culminate that agreement, “by associating the signatures with a business situation, which must be well-prepared to integrate into the national market with ACME through the agreement with the Cabildo de Gran Canaria”.

Councillor, moreover, mentioned that this “was an important day for the fashion sector in Gran Canaria because six brands from the island are for the first time in ACME”.

She explained that the aim is “to continue growing, incorporating new designers to the programme that are prepared to settle in the national market over the next year”.

In that sense, Alonso explained that during the designers’ preparation “they will assume the business relationship with ACME without intermediate”. She also wanted to send out a message of encouragement and work to the Grancanarian creators, “ to exploit this window of opportunity that enables them to grow”.

“These creators are well-recognised in their homeland and it is also important to show their talent out of the islands”, Alonso added. Councillor expressed that “it is crucial that the creators of Gran Canaria expand their market out of the island. Hence the relevance of being here advised by ACME, so that they integrate into the national market with the effort and work of the creators and the advice of the association”.

“We want successful companies, so the Cabildo is supporting and accompanying during the fashion companies growth”, Alonso declared.

For its part, Modesto Lomba said that they had numerous ideas to share because “the aim is to work in teams and build them, which lead us to talk about anything, from creative subjects to fashion show management, projects, fairs or online sale”. He believes that these work tables are principally spontaneous, “even if there are precise moments, it also lies in transmitting knowledge and experiences, and easing the most comfortable and fastest development of the brands”.

“For us, adding Moda Cálida creators to the association makes us more representative, which is ACME intention, where start-up entrepreneurs of the fashion sector will be represented”.
