2020-10-13
The Gran Canaria Swimwear Fashion Week 2020 will count with the participation of almost 40 designers and brands, half of them from the island, apart from 13 national and 5 international ones, which will premiere a circular catwalk where Helen Lindes and Malena Costa will parade and whose ambassador will be Paz Vega, a show for which the Cabildo has redoubled its efforts that will be broadcast live to be enjoyed from anywhere in the world.
The event will take place from the 22nd to the 25th of October in Expomeloneras in a special edition in which there will be limited seating but all the characteristic splendour of the beach and pool fashion catwalk which is a reference in Europe, underlined the president of the Cabildo, Antonio Morales.
Internationalisation, professionalisation, digitalisation and sustainability will be the keys to this event, continued Morales, who stressed that the volume of business has increased by 2 percent despite the situation, and has also grown its network of sales outlets with four new ones and now there are 77. "We had to make an extra effort not to lose the season and continue to support a sector that is a benchmark in the economic activity of the island," he said.
This year's edition, as Juan Manuel Gabella, the Cabildo's Director of Industry and Commerce, underlined, should also be "a turning point" in its commitment to nationalisation and internationalisation, so much so that it is now the third national event after Madrid and Ibiza.
The Swimwear Fashion Week also renews its commitment to new talents and emerging brands without neglecting the established firms, which make up a catwalk characterised by bringing the iconography of the Canary Islands closer to trendy swimwear fashion. Prestigious figures such as Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada, Guillermina Baeza, Dolores Cortés and Aurelia Gil will contribute their know-how to this edition, which also features the incorporation of firms with a high level of design and prestige committed to sustainability and focused on a young public interested in fashion, such as TCN, All Sisters, Como un pez en el agua, Bohodot and Sunno by Bene Cape. In addition, three prizes will be awarded, the first for the best collection, the second for the best emerging collection and finally the Kalsberg for the best sustainable collection.
Nuria de Miguel, director of Fashion Swimwear Week, expressed IFEMA's great satisfaction at renewing its agreement to co-organise the event until 2023, "a very important commitment" which during this time will allow "strengthening the objectives of internationalisation, digitalisation, professionalisation and orientation towards sustainability".

Commitment to digitalisation
IFEMA is once again committed to a digital scenario to position Gran Canaria Swim Week by Moda Cálida. On this occasion, it has worked on optimising its website and has incorporated a digital strategy plan with social networks as the main protagonists, focused on creating synergies between the main players in the event: designers, influencers and the general public.
The catwalk will have a virtual press room, from where the media will be able to access the videos and photographs of the fashion shows practically in real time, hosted on the Moda Cálida website: www.grancanariaswimweek.com and on Instagram (@GranCanariasSwimWeekByMC), Twitter (@GCSwimWeek), and Facebook (facebook.com/GranCanariaSwimWeekbyMC/).
The hashtag #GranCanariaSwimWeekbyMC will serve as a tool for viralisation of the event on social networks.
Professionalisation of the catwalk
On this occasion, Gran Canaria will be visited by ten national buyers who will attend the catwalk, reinforcing the business aspect of the event. Likewise, with the focus on professionalisation, the Fashion Committee has been in charge of selecting the participating firms.
