The Minister of Industry has highlighted “the effort, dedication and enthusiasm” that Gil has put into his work throughout his career, which she has described as “pride” for the island.

Nineteen years after the Canarian brand TRAStornados paraded on the Cibeles Madrid catwalk, Aurelia Gil has once again brought Gran Canaria fashion to the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid with an organic and fluid collection marked by craftsmanship and Canarian heritage.

With almost two decades of dedication to the textile industry, the Gran Canaria creator has premiered the “365” collection, a declaration of intent based on concepts such as sustainability and diversity, expressed through swimwear, clothing for events and a series of basics. which include shirts, trenches and bombers.

“The collection has been designed from sustainable fabrics such as recycled polyester and linen,” declared the designer, who assures that since last year she has only made “one collection a year” in her workshop in Triana, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. , together with a team of seven people and the collaboration of artisans from the region.

The tribute to its signature land, integrated since 2003 into the Warm Fashion program promoted by the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, is projected through pieces made with the openwork technique, footwear made of wood and leather and bags made from fiber. banana tree.

“From natural waste, a yarn is extracted that becomes raffia, a natural thread that has an incredible color range and is woven very well,” Gil explained regarding the circularity of the process of making “light and resistant” that has been presented based on the work of Pilar Ureña.

She has also highlighted the experience of the caladoras of Villa de Ingenio who capture “the draft” in her garments, a fraying and embroidery technique that destroys the fabric and then reconstructs it through stitches that generate a bobbin lace.

As a novelty, Gil has confirmed that this sewing technique has been applied to “very fine silk fabrics” with a result, in her opinion, “very good.”

Before her premiere on the catwalk, the designer has confessed to feeling “tremendous vertigo” as the island's main fashion figure in a unique showcase of Spanish fashion in which she hopes to “open” to the national and international public after its consolidation. as a leading firm in the Canary Islands.

The Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, was present on the catwalk, along with the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Crafts of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Minerva Alonso, who expressed “the pride” that comes with the return, two decades later, of a Gran Canaria brand to an international catwalk in a “hand in hand” alliance between the institution and fashion brands.

“The show has been an example of the perseverance, work and enthusiasm that Aurelia Gil puts into each garment she designs,” a collection that, in her opinion, reflects the tradition, history and culture of the island with “unique identity garments.” ” in which swimwear stands out.

Beyond the glamour, the spotlight and the opportunities offered by the MBFWMadrid catwalk, the Canarian creator is clear that she avoids theatricalization and costumes in fashion: “I simply make women's clothing and for women,” she concludes.
