Four firms from Gran Canaria -Muchiachio, Elena Morales, Pedro Palmas and Carlos Sanjuan- have landed today in Florence to participate, under the umbrella of the Moda Cálida programme of the Island Council and with the support of the Chamber of Commerce, in the 16th edition of the international swimwear and underwear fashion fair 'Maredamare', which is being held between today and 26th July and is attended by buyers from all over Europe. In addition, the Gran Canaria Swim Week catwalk will enjoy a promotional event at the Hard Rock in Florence, which will be attended by a careful selection of guests from the specialised press, companies in the sector and buyers from all over the world.
"The alliance with MaredaMare is growing and the results are increasingly important", highlighted the Councillor for Economic Development Minerva Alonso, who underlines the importance of both the presence of local designers at a European event of these characteristics and the promotion of the catwalk "which continues its path of internationalisation and consolidates itself as an unmissable event and a reference at European level for swimwear fashion".
On this occasion, the catwalk will have an exclusive event organised at the Hard Rock Café, located in the central Piazza della Repubblica, where an attractive presentation of the Gran Canarian catwalk will take place for those buyers from all over the world that MaredaMare has invited, as well as for the press of the sector and fashion.
In the same way, in the next edition of Gran Canaria Swim Week, five international buyers, three international firms specialised in swimwear and three Italian media specialised in fashion will be present at Mare da Mare's proposal. In addition, Mare da Mare will award the prize for the best sustainable collection of 2023, which will consist of a free stand for its firm at the Mare da Mare 2024 Fair.
As for the designers who have travelled to Florence, Muchiachio has done so with a collection that aims to tell the story of what tourist life in the south of Gran Canaria was like in the 1970s. "The aim is to tell the story of the tourist offer that existed at that time. An offer that aimed to be sustainable and respectful of the environment", emphasises the creator.
The new line proposed by Morales, on the other hand, is a statement, a way of being, a journey and an invitation to a journey that continues. "It is a creative process that does not end. We come from a collection with a special background that continues, because we are in that moment of evolution, of transforming darkness into light", she explains.
While the collection proposed by Palmas is inspired by the water of our planet, in the care of it and its seas, as well as transmitting the sensation of "freshness" and the freedom that the summer season gives us on the beaches and in the swimming pools, trying to bring that sensation to our bodies. Finally, Sanjuan proposes a Resort Collection, to enjoy day and night in the most sophisticated destinations: "Each piece is designed with a very personal style, combining sophisticated elegance with daring audacity", he assures.
The biggest Italian showcase for swimwear fashion
The 16th edition of Maredamare renews its commitment to an increasingly expansive vocation thanks to the participation of the best brands of swimwear, kaftans, accessories, homewear and underwear at the Fortezza da Basso in Florence, the most prestigious and historic event venue in Italy, located in the centre of the city. An average of 300 mid to high-end brands exhibit at Maredamare, making it the only Italian show in the sector and an absolute reference in Europe for beachwear.
